In The Name of ALLAH

Narrating the Abase Sura

How could we recognize whether a person has a talent to be guided to the Truth less than the others? What if this person is disable; let’s say, a blind man. What about a poor person? Due to this low social status, are we in the position to ignore him or somehow set him aside from our attention?

On the other hand, supposing a person who is healthy, wealthy and mighty; but, inattentive to the Divine guidance. He behaves as if he was the owner of the whole world and probably did not need any guidance. Should we pay more attention to that person hoping to be directed to the Right path only because of his high financial or political rank?

Allah cite in the Holy Qur’an, ”No! at all.” That is not an acceptable logical basis to consider people to be guided by their properties degree or superficial abilities. Only those believers could purify (Tazkie) themselves and observe the reminders (zekr) who eagerly attempt to know more about Qur’an and their hearts surely are full of fears of God’s disobedience in spite of even their disabilities or poor conditions.

The Holy Qur’an, as our spiritual sustenance, is revealed to the honorable messenger by noble Angels. It is indeed a reminder (Zekr) for those believers seeking the Truth through contemplation. The sacred Book reminds mankind of some facts to keep him away from any neglect or oblivion.

In order to have a better perspective horizon for seeing well and thinking deeply, the Holy Qur’an depicts the process of human creation from a tiny worthless sperm_ drop to a perfect man; from birth to death; from putting him in his grave in this world to raising him up to life on the Resurrection Day.

Furthermore, Qur’an also demonstrates another essential dimension of human creation; that is, his worldly sustenance or food. The Creator_ Nurturer provides the physical need of mankind by pouring down the torrential rain from which the various types of plants grow. These plants vary from giant trees to small grains; from valuable nutrient fruit trees and herbs to green grass and fodders so as to feed human and his livestock.

By these heavenly ( the Holy Qur’an) and the worldly sustenance, what Allah Expect from human to do in return? Nothing but to be grateful for these priceless blessings and do not take them for granted. Regardless of one’s amount of properties and social classes, if people take the Divine precious reminders to follow up the guiding path, they shall make their utmost efforts along with the respectful awe of Allah to achieve purification (Tazkie). Then, as a result, these believers may appear satisfied with their good deeds and bright happy faces in Hereafter; otherwise, their faces shall be stained and darken with the dust of being ungrateful. They are regretful for not using the Divine blessings as it was taught by The honorable prophet (PBUH) as well as the Holy Quran. Surely, this is the definite destiny of wicked disbelievers.

Now one may think how it is possible to approach purification. Undoubtedly, one of the best ways recommended is to review some parts of the pray of Infallible Imam Sajjad known as Makarim Al_Akhlaq ( the nobilities of character) in “Sahiefe Sajjadie book, as follows :

In The Name of Allah

O Allah, Bless Muhammed and Muhammed’s household

Cause my faith to reach the most perfect faith,

Make my certainty the most excellent certainty,

And take my intention to the best of intentions,

And take my work to the best work.

O Allah, Bless Muhammed and Muhammed’s household

Spare me the concerns which distract me,

Employ me in that about which you will ask me

Tomorrow,

And let me pass my days in that for which you have

Created me,

Free me from need, expand your sustenance toward me,

And tempt me not with ingratitude.

Exalt me and afflict me not with pride.

Make me worship you,

And corrupt not my worship with self_admiration,

Let good flow out from my hands upon the people,

And efface it not by making them feel obliged.

Give me the highest moral traits,

And preserve me from vain glory.

O Allah, Bless Muhammed and Muhammed’s household

And give me to enjoy a sound guidance which I seek not to replace,

A path of Truth from which I swerve not,

And an intention of right conduct in which I

Have no doubts.

Let me live as long as my life is a free gift in

Obedient to you,

But if my life should become a pasture of Satan,

Seize me to yourself

Before your hatred overtakes me

Or your wrath against me becomes firm.

O Allah, deposit in me no quality for which I will be

Faulted unless you set it right,

No flaw for which I will be blamed unless you make it

Beautiful.

No deficient noble trait unless you complete it.

O Allah, Bless Muhammed and Muhammed’s household

Homework no. 8                                                                                                  A Brief Discussion of Abas Surah

Abas surah is about refinement and training. The whole verses are encountering (facing). The key words in Abas surah are frown, turning away, coming, blind, knowing, piety, reminding, reminder, self-sufficiency, paying attention, earnestly, fears, not attentive, honorable, purified, denying the truth, creation, bright faces, laughing and rejoicing and lastly distress. As you can see most of these words are the configurations attribute to the face of relationships with others. Abas surah teaches having good relationship considering humility and politeness. Level of people especially poor or wealthy, should not affects the relations.

During the destiny of birth and death, flourishing and growth are required. God sends water to pierce the hard earth’s crust and grow the grains. Quran does the same with our heart.

In The Name of ALLAH

Abasa: He Frowned

Revealed at Mecca

This sura is revealed to the prophet ( PBUH) and indeed to all mankind for the respect and honor God considers for those believers who are seeking the Divine guidance. Several steps of guidance are highlighted in the sura. Some of them are as:

  1. "Zekr" means reminder to think and remember ;
  2. "Nazara" close observation and attention;
  3. "Tazkieh" means purification.
The Holy Qur'an is also called "Zekr", presented to mankind in an exalted and purified place by Honorable Angels encouraging him to think deeply on his social communication and behavior. The Holy Qur'an emphasizes that the superficial appearance of people in a community such as their degree of social or economical status, their amount of wealth, etc. is not the logical basis for evaluating and respecting believers. The prophet is questioned how it is possible to ignore a helpless blind person while attempting eagerly to learn more from the Divine Messenger just because he looks poor and needy.

Additionally, the sura provides us with two samples of food or Ta'am to see and and notice their impacts on our worldly life. One is the Holy Qur'an presented as a Divine food for spiritual maturity. The other one, we are asked to observe the worldly "Ta'am" we eat. God created variety of grains, fruits, herbs and alike whatever is necessary for our physical growth. So, undoubtedly, these spiritual and physical Ta'am or foods play a crucial role in human's maturity.

Afterwards, the eager believers attempt to purify or "Tazkie" themselves for the Creator_Nurturer. This purification is to follow up the Holy Qur'an guidance. "Tazkie" comes after seeing and remembering the value of all blessings including human's creation originating from being a drop of worthless sperm to develop and shape in such a perfection. Besides, Allah made the path of guidance easy for him by his Messenger and the Holy Book. Then it comes his death in this world and his raising up to life in Hereafter by God's Wills.

All in all human has been given lots of blessings; the honorable prophet (PBUH) and the Holy Qur'an as well as the worldly sustenance as a reminder to observe deeply and purify.

Abas sura

Abas sura consists of 5 classifications:

  1. Explanation of social event, guidance and guiding…

2. The role of Qur'an in life, descending of Qur'an and its high position in world…

3. The process of human life from beginning to end…

4. The importance of food in life and description of plants as his food…

5. The condition of human in here after…

Human as the only thoughtful creature, should consider the cause and the result of his actions.

                                       Qur'an                        }

                   Creation   ----- Human----blessings        }>>>>>ACTIONS OF HUMAN

                                       Hereafter                     }

This sura starts with a social behavior notification. People do not show how much they have been guided, so each person should be careful how to behave with others.  The real value of each person is based on his purification (tazkiyeh). Some Prerequisites are needed to purify   oneself: striving hard, fear of Allah, considering  Qur'an as a reminder for guidance.

Everything has the role of remembrance (zekr) for human in this world which has been mentioned in this sura:

-The process of human's creation

                  -Determination his fate by Allah

-The easy  path of guidance for human

-Die and be buried

-Resurrecting the human on judgment day

-Food

-Sending down abundant water

-Cleave the earth and grow the seeds

-Different fruits

-Thick gardens

-Herbage

-Livestock

When we see these blessings we understand that the creator has made all these things in the service of human to know he should grow up and move toward Allah by finding the truth of his creation and find the ways to achieve perfection.

These ways should be given to us from skies, the angels who have written the order of great Allah in many books: Qur'an (the honorable, exalted, purified book).

Our dear prophet received the holy book and transferred it to us. So the holy Qur'an is our spiritual food and as a source of remembrance of truth.  We have to strive hard and be humble to discover the truth and purification and find out how to live, act to other humans and ourselves, use our blessings and know them as signs.

In The Name Of Allah

The outlines of sura 'Abas'

1. Personal, social and cultural guidelines (for human's guidance), verses 1-10:

- Do not judge the status of anyone's guidance or misleading

- Listen to 'zekr'-- The reminders reminding the Truth and the Straight Path

- Do not think of yourself as an almighty one who does not need any help

- Try hard, desire and do not hesitate to be led

- Fear Allah and be humble in His presence

- Do not ignore or neglect the ones who are seeking the guidance to be led

2. The prominent and vital role of the Holy Books as divine reminders-'zekr- and the Prophets/ Messengers in human's ' tazkieh', verses11-16

3. The unbelievable high degree of human's 'kofr', verse 17-- 'kofr' means hiding and denying the Truth

4. Human's creation, worldly life, death and resurrection, verses 18-22

- In his worldly life, it is highlighted that Allah has eased his life by granting precious facilities to him. Therefore, human's role to know and understand these facilities, and be wise and eager enough to benefit from them is critical in his guidance.

5. Human's unfortunate disobedience against Allah's order, verse 23

6. 'Ta`am' and its importance in human's progress, verses 24-32 --('Ta`am' means desired food, but much better definition is:it is something small or big, materialistic or spiritual and divine which is a needy one's right and meets his demands, and if has been given to him, it helps him to move out of inaction, stagnation, get rid of limitation, and so progress.)

- The role of the close observation on 'ta`am' and deep consideration about it by human and in his guidance is highlighted.

Water which is a unique blessing given to human in large amount by Allah is emphasized. It can be a similitude for IMAM and his guidance.

- The seeds hidden deep in the ground are introduced as precious potentials; they , at the same time, can be human's potentials.

- Here there is the importance of 'ماء' in actualizing the potentials.

- A variety of plants growing by receiving 'ماء' is introduced; they are different in longevity, strength, products and usage. In fact, we can compare the plants mentioned in sura with different kind of humans.

7. Human's hard finale on Resurrection Day and Hereafter, and his action towards his belongings at the time, verses 33-37

8. The effect of 'ماء' on humans' finale in Hereafter according to their selections to benefit from it or not, verses 38-42

The Way towards Brightness (the graph)

1-Believing that God has not forsakes us and is not displeased with us

2-The hereafter is better than this present life

3-God has promised to make those who act as their duties joyous in this life and in the hereafter

4-Sympathizing with orphans and the needy and helping them to overcome their problems; practical proclaiming of the grace and favor of the God

5-Continually commence one duty after the other with eagerness for God’s pleasure.

6-The consequence of such behaviorism is the God’s grant of a breast expansion and a tolerance elevation against the difficulties so that the burdens are taken away upon accepting to walk through the God’s path. This will eventually lead to raise of fame for one’s name, what can be counted a relief after a straightened circumstance.

7-Throughout the movement from darkness (Layl) to brightness (Zoha), a man finds the God’s way more easily and deserves more for God’s blessing.

In Zoha surah, description about brightness and darkness, the real blessing is said to be the “Velayat” and the prophet is asked to act and speak so that this blessing becomes apparent. In Ensherah surah, after promising the easiness to follow the difficulties, the holly prophet is ordered to place Amir-al-momenin as the guider of the society, after getting free from his mission duties.

Hopefully, our beliefs to God’s promises will turn to certainty, one day

Zoha_Mesbah

This diagram combines the surahs Al-Zoha, Al-Nas, and Al-Homazah. Two groups of people are illustrated one who are residing in the dark half (Al-layl) and the other in the bright half (Al-zoha) of the life.

The group residing in the dark half are affected by temptations of Satan which may eventually penetrate into their hearts and make them taunter and ill-will back biter. These people, who are ill-hearted, prefer this present life over the hereafter. The living style such people choose concentrates on wealth collection and keeping its count since they suppose their wealth will last forever. Nay! Verily these will be cast into “Hotamah”. Meanwhile, this group suppose that God has forsaken the holly prophet and is displeased with him while themselves treat the orphans with harshness and repulse the beggars.

On the other hand, the group who have decided to live on the bright half and believe in Allah as their creator, king and God, not only do not suppose that God has forsaken the holly prophet and is displeased with him, but also, believe that it is God who guides, enriches and gives shelter to all people including the holly prophet. This belief is associated with a strong confidence that the hereafter is better for them than this present life. So, following their prophet, they do not treat the orphans with harshness nor they repulse the beggars. Furthermore, this group are practically thankful to God by performing what God has asked them. The destiny of this group, as their prophet’s, is that they are granted and pleased by their God. En-shallah we will receive the holly prophet’s intercession (شفاعت).
