Discussion of Mauon Surah
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِیمِ أَ رَءَیْتَ الَّذِى یُکَذِّبُ بِالدِّینِ(1) فَذَالِکَ الَّذِى یَدُعُّ الْیَتِیمَ(2) وَ لَا یحَضُّ عَلىَ طَعَامِ الْمِسْکِینِ(3) فَوَیْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّینَ(4) الَّذِینَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتهِمْ سَاهُونَ(5) الَّذِینَ هُمْ یُرَاءُونَ(6) وَ یَمْنَعُونَ الْمَاعُونَ(7)
Mauon Surah is 107th Surah in Quran. It contains 7 verses. Mauon Surah describes the characteristics of deniers of religion: driving away the orphan, not urging feeding of the needy, being heedless of prays, showing off and denying aids.
Islam religion has personal and also social commands. These two commands are related to each other. Social commands are as important as personal ones. Therefore Mauon Surah, in replying the main question, starts with the social aspects of religion (Din).
Orphan (Yatim) is someone who lost one of his parents, teacher, educator or tutor. So he needs materialistic and spiritual helps. In Quran the word Orphan (Yatim) is repeated more than 20 times. It shows the importance of this social problem in Islam religion:
- ءَاتىَ الْمَالَ عَلىَ حُبِّهِ ذَوِى الْقُرْبىَ وَ الْیَتَامَى وَ الْمَسَاکِینَ وَ ابْنَ السَّبِیلِ وَ السَّائلِینَ وَ فىِ الرِّقَابِ وَ أَقَامَ الصَّلَوةَ وَ ءَاتىَ الزَّکَوةَ وَ الْمُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ . . (177) Bagare
- یَسْلُونَکَ مَا ذَا یُنفِقُونَ قُلْ مَا أَنفَقْتُم مِّنْ خَیرْ فَلِلْوَالِدَیْنِ وَ الْأَقْرَبِینَ وَ الْیَتَامَى وَ الْمَسَاکِینِ وَ ابْنِ السَّبِیلِ وَ مَا تَفْعَلُواْ مِنْ خَیرْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِهِ عَلِیمٌ(215) Bagare
- وَ إِذَا حَضرَ الْقِسْمَةَ أُوْلُواْ الْقُرْبىَ وَ الْیَتَامَى وَ الْمَسَاکِینُ فَارْزُقُوهُم مِّنْهُ وَ قُولُواْ لَهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا(8)Nesa
- إِنَّ الَّذِینَ یَأْکُلُونَ أَمْوَالَ الْیَتَامَى ظُلْمًا إِنَّمَا یَأْکلُونَ فىِ بُطُونِهِمْ نَارًا وَ سَیَصْلَوْنَ سَعِیرًا(10) Nesa
- وَ لَا تَقْرَبُواْ مَالَ الْیَتِیمِ إِلَّا بِالَّتىِ هِىَ أَحْسَنُ حَتىَ یَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُ وَ أَوْفُواْ بِالْعَهْدِ إِنَّ الْعَهْدَ کاَنَ مَسْولًا(34) Isra
- کلاَّ بَل لَّا تُکْرِمُونَ الْیَتِیمَ(17) Fajr
- فَأَمَّا الْیَتِیمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ(9)Zoha
Another important word used in Mauon Surah is needy (Meskin). Meskin is someone who is not able to move and obtain his needs. In Quran the word needy (Meskin) is repeated 12 times. In these verses Meskin's rights are explained:
- أَیَّامًا مَّعْدُودَاتٍ فَمَن کاَنَ مِنکُم مَّرِیضًا أَوْ عَلىَ سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَیَّامٍ أُخَرَ وَ عَلىَ الَّذِینَ یُطِیقُونَهُ فِدْیَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْکِینٍ فَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَیرْا فَهُوَ خَیرْ لَّهُ وَ أَن تَصُومُواْ خَیرْ لَّکُمْ إِن کُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ(184) Bagare
- وَ ءَاتِ ذَا الْقُرْبىَ حَقَّهُ وَ الْمِسْکِینَ وَ ابْنَ السَّبِیلِ وَ لَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِیرًا(26) Isra
- فَمَن لَّمْ یجَدْ فَصِیَامُ شهَرَیْنِ مُتَتَابِعَینْ مِن قَبْلِ أَن یَتَمَاسَّا فَمَن لَّمْ یَسْتَطِعْ فَإِطْعَامُ سِتِّینَ مِسْکِینًا ذَالِکَ لِتُؤْمِنُواْ بِاللَّهِ وَ رَسُولِهِ وَ تِلْکَ حُدُودُ اللَّهِ وَ لِلْکَافِرِینَ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمٌ(4) Mujadele
- وَ لَا یحَضُّ عَلىَ طَعَامِ الْمِسْکِینِ(34) Haaqqe
- وَ لَمْ نَکُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْکِینَ(44) Muddathther
- وَ یُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلىَ حُبِّهِ مِسْکِینًا وَ یَتِیمًا وَ أَسِیرًا(8)Insan
- وَ لَا تحَضُّونَ عَلىَ طَعَامِ الْمِسْکِینِ(18)Fajr
“Prayers neglectful of their prayers (Salaat) who show off and deny aid” is another key expression in Mauon Surah. It said even praying, that is a personal job, is accepted if the social views were correct. These conditions are described in Maarej Surah:
- إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّینَ(22)
- الَّذِینَ هُمْ عَلىَ صَلَاتهِمْ دَائمُونَ(23)
- وَ الَّذِینَ فىِ أَمْوَالهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ(24)
- لِّلسَّائلِ وَ الْمَحْرُومِ(25
- وَ الَّذِینَ یُصَدِّقُونَ بِیَوْمِ الدِّینِ(26)
